What is the best Peer-to-Peer download manager out there? I had morpheus... hated it. Lime Wire is just aggrevating. I'm on azereus Vuze right now and its seeming a little slow... 572 peers, a 1 gig download, and 3 hours left? ouch. What is the fastest, most reliable .torrent manager on the market that uses web sites like isohunt.com? I dont care if you need to pay for it, I can just download it off azereus ;-)

    I just got a 700 meg avi at 500k/s

  2. Utorrent is the fastest if you tweak it. I get at least 600KBps from movies.

If you need any help contact me on yahoo messenger.

  3. When properly set up, Vuze is as fast as any other bittorrent client, or other program, at downloading torrents.  You might want to check out this guide to setting Vuze up for best download speed:

    http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/...

  4. Try uTorrent. It is small and light and has the important advanced features that Vuze has. It's not as flashy but it's just as good and uses sooo much less system resources. Not to mention it's the most popular bit torrent client in the world.

Here's how to make it fast:

    Problem: uTorrent speeds are slow.

There are many factors to consider.

Are there many seeders (people sharing the entire torrent)?

Are there many leechers (people downloading and sharing parts of the torrent)?

Are you a hit-and-run downloader? Some trackers will give preferential treatment to people who share (upload) a larger amount than what they have downloaded.

Does your ISP (like Comcast) throttle bittorrent traffic? Check the Azureus Wiki listed at the very bottom of this.

Are you running all torrents at the same time? You only have so much bandwidth. It's good karma to share more than you've downloaded, but if you are downloading pause all the other torrents until your current download is complete, then resume uploading the others. You can get SUBSTANTIALLY better speeds if you follow the tweaking guide(s) I will list at the end of this. If you're willing to do a few speed tests, some math, and change some settings, it will be well worth it.

You'd be smart to set a system restore point prior to doing all this; Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore and create a restpore point.

Or you can save a copy of your registry. Start>run>regedit, then file>export and save that file somewhere safe.

If you have XP, you'll want to patch your Max Half-open connections with this file:

If you have Vista, go here and download/read directions:

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/04/09...

Your max half-open is currently 10 (most likely). I have mine patched to 80. Do not go over 100.

You can tweak your TCP settings to make the most of your internet connection. This will speed up EVERYTHING you do online (a tiny bit), including web browsing. Download the TCP Optimizer and follow directions. You may need to do some speed tests (as listed below) before you change any settings.

You'll want to pick a "listening port" to forward. Here's a list of what ports are used for different services:

    http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-num...

You'll want to use a port that out of the way, unassigned, and not blocked by your ISP. I use port 50000 (fifty thousand).

In uTorrent, you'll go to options>preferences>connection and put a port number in the "port used for incoming connections" spot. Do not click the "random port" button.

You'll need to forward that port on your router. Here's a good guide of how to do that:

    http://www.portforward.com/english/route...

You'll also need to open that port on your software firewall, here's a guide for that:

    http://www.portforward.com/english/route...

You can use Peer Guardian 2 to filter IP addresses of people who upload junk file bits and thus increase the amount of time it takes for you to download the full file (your client program has to download the junk, then sort through it and try to again to download the real thing, and possibly again and again):

    http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

If you've chosen a port, forwarded it on your router, opened that port on your firewall, and patched your max half-open connections (tcpip.sys file), you're now ready to do a few speed tests and then follow the guides to change the uTorrent settings. Do a few speed tests and use your average results for upload/download speeds.

    Speedtests:

My favorite guide is the one from Xtreme-source, and if you use uTorrent it's the only guide you'll need.

    http://www.xtreme-source.com/tutorials-s...

Don't forget to restart your torrents after you've finished downloading and share for a while. It's good to share AT LEAST as much of a torrent as you've downloaded (1to1 ratio). People sharing is what makes torrents work.
