Best tropical-ish vacation spots for four days from Wash. DC?

Question

So we want to take a semi-last minute long weekend getaway (a Thurs. night through Monday) and would like to go somewhere tropical-ish. For four days and a decent budget, where would you recommend?

We are NOT into super-touristy stuff. We would really like somewhere laid back where we can snorkel, swim, hike, wander, etc. Quiet is great -- the less crowds the better.

If it helps, we're more Outer Banks (NC) than Miami or more Kauai than Maui.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. :)

Myrtle Beach is a great place. it may be crowded this time of year though so you may want to try a quieter place such as hilton head island south carolina or charleston beach south carolina

Check out the west coast of puerto rico, like Aguadilla or Ricnon. Or Culebra or Vieques island. Vieques has wild horses & a bioluminescent bay.
