Question:

Best type of car for a sub?

So there are a thousand topics on here asking what type of system is best blah, blah, blah. I am currently looking for a car and the way my future system sounds is going to be a big part of how i select the car. So my question is what would the best type of car be for a large sub(s) with a lot of power? And while im looking what things should i look for?

So my car will have to have a large trunk, I'd prefer a sedan, good reliability and all that, hopefully leather but that is not a deal breaker, what kinds of things should i look out for? What are the main causes of rattling? And are suvs, minivans, and hatchbacks inherently much better than sedans? Oh and it would have to be one that is available used for 5k-ish, but less is always more.

  1. if you're looking for a car that will likely be the loudest environment for a sub, then I'd go with a smaller hatchback.  The open trunk gives you ample room for a large box, and the smaller cabin space will make it louder because its closer to you (though this might be negligable between any open-trunk vehicle).

    With a sedan, you have to contend with the sound having to travel through the back seats/rear deck/etc, which cuts down somewhat on the amount of sound that gets through, depending on the type of car.


  2. Your going to get rattles you will have to accept that. Just budget for lots of sound proofing!

    The size of the car is the only real thing you can look for just make sure it can fit everything you want in it.

    All cars have basicaly the same paneling etc. so your not going to find one with much better acoustics than another. Just get one you like!!!

I WOULD GO WITH A 1994 ACURA INTEGRA, OR A 1996 TOYOTA CELICA, BOTH ARE HATCHBACK, SO YOU CAN HAVE A BIGGGG PORTED SUBWOOFER BOX WITH 2 12" FOSGATE SUBWOOFERS, AND 2 AMPS, AND IT WILL BE VERY CLEAR AND LOUD. alSO, DYNAMAT THE TRUNK, THAT WOULD DEADENED IT SO WAY LESS RATTLE,  AND HATCHBACKS SOUND CLEANER, LESS PARTS THAT MOVE AROUND. rATTLING IS CAUSED BY PARTS BEING FLEXED BY THE SUBWOOFER FREQUENCIES, SO IF YOU GET A CAR WITH A ACTUALL TRUNK, YOU WILL GET A LOT MORE RATTLING, THERE ARE MORE PARTS TO IT, S O MORE NOICE IS EXPECTED. SUVS ARE BETTER, BUT YOU NEED EVEN BIGGER AND BETTER SUBS TO FILL IT WITH BASS.
