  1. Billy,

I would start off with panfish. Bluegills, perch & crappie. I don't believe that there is an easier more fisherman friendly fish on the planet than the bluegill. I have been catching them for 47 years and they haven't gotten any smarter. These fish hit a variety of baits and lures, are widespread in most lakes they inhabit and I hear they are good eating. (I don't eat much fish.)  Garden worms, meal worms, nightcrawlers and small minnows are excellent bait for these fish. No self respecting bluegill would dare turn down a worm.

For rods I would go with a 6 ft. medium/light action spinning rod. Any of the combinations from Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's will work just fine and usually come with a warranty.  Match this with some 6# test line and you have got a winning combination. Catch a bunch!!!

  2. A spincast outfit is by far the easiest rig to use.  Push the button all the way in, and let it out as you toss the bait out.  It takes some practice to get the timing right, but you should be able to pick it up in no time.

Disgorgers are used to remove hooks from deep inside a fish's

mouth.  Usually you can just use a needle-nosed pliers to

grab the hook and push it a bit down before it comes out.

Disgorgers have a slot that you put the hook in, then push down

and twist to get the hook loose

  3. ask laura n artie they can even take u there.for novice just take ur rod n cast in the water, don't worry too much real time fishing is all u need.read lots of fishing facts for novice at lots of sites here,so u can pick this up at a faster pace.dislodger r meant for really poisonous species n freaking bigones but after that all u need is your god given hands.alan yates has a video on this, watch it.

  4. Try catfishing, they're simple to fish for and put up one of the best fights of all fish. You'll enjoy it.  Use Leeches, Large Minnows, or shad guts. Baby bluegills are also great bait for Cats!  All you need to is set up a weight with a hook under it, or you can also put the hook on first then the weight.  But of course make sure the lake you are fishing in has catfish in it to begin with. Have a good time!

  5. I agree spincast are easy but I'd take the time to learn a spinning reel and about a 6ft rod.  Get a decent Shimano or Garcia Mitchell 300 (ebay) or a new Mitchell 300 with some 10lb line.

Catfish are fun and easy and if the water is clean you can eat them and they eat almost anything from bar soap cut up to fish cut up.

    size 1/0 or 1 or 2 hook

Bluegill or punkinseed are easily caught and can make a nice snack and they are fun to catch.  size 6 or 8 hook

suckers and carp are fun - throw out a hook & sinker with a night crawler and wait - carp can be hard to bring in when they get bigger.

    size 4 hook

trout can be fun and sometimes easy (rainbow trout) when they are in what they call a put&take lake or pond - they stock them and you go catch them.

Night crawlers are your best bait - they work for all of them...and they are easy to get 2 dozen at Wal-Mart about $3.

Remember one thing - get good hooks - nothing more frustrating than to have a fish break your hook.

Only use enough weight (sinkers) to get your bait out to the fish...they aren't always at the middle of the pond /lake - watch where the guys in the boat are throwing their lures or bait >>> usually towards shore.

best thing is to get some eagle claw or mustad hooks and the small red container with removeable split shot sinkers so you can take them on and off.

What state do you live in too - that could help...
