Question:

Best type of single person inflatable kayak?

I'm looking for an inflatable kayak that is priced as cheap as possible. I won't kid you I'm still a beginner but have had enough experience that I want an inflatable kayak.

What I want is a kayak that can be used in class 2-3 whitewater but would do ok in flat water. I want something as cheap as possible in price but not quality. This would be something that I could mess around with and eventually move on to specific white water kayak and/or touring kayak. A kayak has the ridges for a skirt would be an advantage.

My biggest dilemma is that I'm 6'6" and weigh about 250lbs so I need something that can carry me

Someone who can tell me specific models would be greatly appreciated and where I can find them.

  1. Go to nrsweb.com.  They have a couple of brands to look at, and their prices are as good as any.  The Tributary and the Tomcat are very good entry level IKs.  Good luck and paddle safe!!

  2. i'm an inch shorter and about the same weight... i went with the 2man version for stability, i got mine at an army surplus store, if you have one around that would be a great start, or try cabelas... that would be cheaper than an athletic store..
