Question:

Best video camera under $3800?

I've looked at the RED Scarlet, and it's not a problem that it won't be out until 2009, but since my budget is around $3500-3800, and since I would have to buy other parts for the Scarlet, I think it would be a little too expensive. Also I heard it doesn't work with some editing programs, and I use Adobe Premiere/After Effects.

I'll mostly be using this camera for internet videos, but I want them to look as good as they can. I have had a series of video cameras under $1000, and none of them have completely satisfied me.

I'd appreciate any input you have to say. Thanks! :D

  1. In your price range, I would say the short list would include the Sony HDR-FX1 (which I use - good in lowlight), Canon XHA1... perhaps the Sony HVR-V1U.

Others (if you can find good pricing though a reputable dealer like bhphotovideo.com or adorama.com) would include the Sony HVR-Z1U and Panasonic HVX200 family (though the P2 cards are a bit pricey).

Since internet video posting is beginning to allow high definition (like the high quality at YouTube or HD at vimeo.com, among others), moving to a high definition camcorder would be appropriate.

There are other camcorders, but the above list is a good place to start.
