Question:

Best way of getting from Spain (Madrid) to Morocco??

My initial plan was to get a train and ferry but now I'm thinking of flying as it's cheaper!

Train & Ferry = €100, It'll take pretty much a days travel

Flight = €30, Takes bout hour & half

I know the logical choice seems to be flight but I kinda liked the idea of being on a ferry watching Africa approach - thought it would be cool but is it worth €70 and the best part of a day? What ya think... what would you do? Plus it'll be November so may not be all that spectacular & the free time would allow me to do more stuff in Morocco! I'm not sure what to do so anybody who's travelled by either method please let me know which experience seemed best!

  1. Why not take the train from Madrid to Algeciras. You can then hop on a ferry  Euro 45 its a beautiful sight to see the African coastline approaching, when you disembark at Tangier, take a trip to the Sultans palace, the Kasbah, and along the beachfront you can look into the telescope to see the European coastline of Spain. I took photos of the coastlines - one of which eas through the telescope!

  2. Alex, if you are a romantic, or are into history, or culture, or into an understanding of today's drama's, or into beauty... take the long ferry from Algeciras to Tangier!  Nothing as beautiful as that in the region.

Also within Morocco, even if it is 9 hours from Tangier to Marrakech, there is nothing as taking the train. It is comfortable, you make friends, the landscape is stunning... something that is always missed by the people that take a plane.

    Enjoy!

  3. Save some money and swim there

  4. the plane is a good idea just try to avoid arriving late at night in morocco 'cause it won't be easy to find a taxi (and it will be expansive). Plus if it is you're first time there you might not feel very safe at 2am out there.

the only problem i see with a ferry is the waiting time both at arrival and departure. also Tangier's port is not a safe place but you have like 100,000 troops of police there.

Anyway either way it's gonna be fun, but the plane will spare you a lot of possible complications
