Best way of getting to Bergerac - without flying?

I am buying a property in Bergerac in the Dordogne France and am going over in early Sept to see it. I live in Hampshire and want to take my car - so flying`s not an option - Can anyone tell me the best route to take i.e which ferry port would be my best option, driving distances etc

  1. Use via michelin, it will reveal all. I used to get the ferry from portsmouth.

  3. What I suggest you is driving your car from your home to Paris via the "chunnel". There's an automobile-railferry service to cross the channel-tunnel, you put your car into large railway cars on the england side of the tunnel and continue with your car at Calais, France.

    At Paris, you can use SNCF's TAC (train-auto-couchette) service from Paris's Bercy station (just south of Paris's Lyon station) to Bordeaux. It's basically an overnight train with dormitories and bedrooms while your car is on the same train on an automobile carrier car. I think you can also put your car on such train but take a daylight TGV highspeed train for moving yourself from Paris's Lyon station to Bordeaux.

    Then you drive your car from Bordeaux to Bergerac.
