  1. Just ease into it, start of with asking how the person is and you don't wanna be bugging them but you had a favor to ask and end by saying something like how is it there or like you miss working there or something and add in there that you always valued their opinion blah blah blah

  2. Dear X,

I would be grateful if you would write me a reference.

    Thanking you in anticipation,

    Yours,

    Event

    - This is a bit formal but I guess if you were on close terms you wouldn't be having this problem -

  3. You are better off to greet them and ask how they have been then ask them if they could please give you a reference for a new job your applying for and thank them also.

  4. Do you mean employer?  This is just a sample, and you'll have to fill in the right words:

    Dear Mr. (or Ms.) --------

My name is Joe Smith, and I worked for you at the Wright Company back in April of 1993.  I am presently seeking employment at the Brown Industries, and was wondering if you would be so kind as to let me use your name as a reference for the position.  I would very much appreciate it.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Sincerely yours,

    Joe

  5. You could say something like: Hello :), I am applying for a new job and I would really appreciate it if I could use you as a reference, as we know each other fairly well. If you don't mind me using you as a reference could you please let me know a.s.a.p? Thank you!

-Something simple like that. Hope it helps.! :]
