only way is to die before you hit age 70 1/2.  Me?  I'd rather pay the tax.

Fed tax, no,  but you can avoid state tax if you collect your 401k in some states like Nevada who don't tax 401ks.

If you roll it over into another qualified plan, you will not have to pay tax on it.   If you die, your beneficiaries will pay the tax on it.  Otherwise, you will pay tax on it if you withdraw it.
