Best way to clean carpets of spilled coca-cola?

I have a toddler and would prefer not to use chemical cleaners but after using soap and water and letting the site dry, I notice that it appears to be a magnet for dirt. Is there a way to clean it at home? Am I to late to have a professional cleaner remove the stain. Thank you for your time.

  1. More than likely it's because there is still syrup residue from the Coca Cola in the carpet, maybe the padding.

Reclean the area with soap and water.  Once done, put a dry towel over the area and set something heavy (like a brick) on top of the towel.

Liquids will always go from wet to dry areas, it's called wicking.  Like a flooded room, once water has no dry floor to go to, it will start wicking up the walls.  What will happen once you put the brick (or something heavy weighted on the carpet) on the towel is the water will go from the carpet into the towel.

That should resolve your problem.  Hope it helps!

  2. Try blotting it with rubbing alcohol and paper towels. I also use cheap shaving cream to get out carpet stains followed with vinegar to remove the residue which is what attracts the dirt.
