My 2 yr old daughter got sick two times last Saturday night, and threw up all over everything in her crib. I washed her sheets and blankets of course, but my problem is with her stuffed Mickey Mouse and her Dora. I figured I could just wash her Dora's hair and she should be okay. As far as the Mickey Mouse goes, I don't know what I should do. His tag says not to wash him in the washing machine. He has the bendable arms and legs... I have tried spot cleaning him, but he still reeks! I don't want to have to throw him away, but if I can't get the smell out, I am gonna have to....

Thanks for your help!

  1. If you're going to have to toss them anyway because of the smell you have nothing to lose by tossing them in the washing machine on a gentle cycle. We've washed my daughter's bear more times than I care to count and even went so far as to buy an Insurance Bear (i.e. we bought the same bear on eBay in case we ever had to throw the original away for a reason such as this) but he's always made it through just fine.

    Best of luck!!!

  2. if he's pretty much clean then just spray it all over with a kid safe disinfecting spray to get out the smell and the germs

  3. If he is cloth frebreeze the h**l out of him.  Get him good and soaked with it then let it air dry.  IF this doesn't work  try washing it.

  4. try to fill up the sink with water and soap, put him in there. use the sink stopper/plug so water doesnt go down the drain. you cant put him in the machine but you can put him in the sink and do it old-fashioned style. the tub also works. when youre done you can spray febreeze on him, or i have some of this odor eliminator, which works also. lysol would work too. as far as dora goes, dont put her in the sink if she's a hard doll. id shes stuffed shes fine but if shes plastic water will stay in her, i learned this the hard way when i was little. get baby wipes or lysol disinfecting wipes and wipe her all down, and wash her hair like you said. then spray her with lysol/febreeze/odor eliminator. this should work

  5. Ew I've been there sister! Try vinegar.

  6. Honestly, I was trying to think of a way to wash my daughter's dolls too... and I found a suggestion online that I tried and it worked SO well that I have to share it with you.

You just get your daughter, or you can do it yourself, to help you give her baby a "bath" and you fill a large basin or bowl with warm water and a few teaspoons of baking soda (that takes the smell right out). You can use soap if you wish too, ot add a fresher scent, but the baking soda alone takes the smells out. Hope that helps!

Also, if they're soft like stuffed animals, you can put them in a pillowcase and throw them in the washing machine, just avoid the dryer, it will dry the cotton inside them funny.

  7. Try using the hand washables cycle on the washing machine, and do not put it in the dryer. However...use either Dreft, or even better - try Tide (not any other brand).  The other wash cycles might really mess the dolls up. Don't worry about the hand washable cycle - it meant for things like that. You could wash it by hand, but you might end up damaging it yourself.

The reason being, the vomit has soaked through into the stuffing - and you need to get a deeper clean than the surface , i.e spot cleaning. Dreft is a good cleaner, and can sometimes pull out the milk  and other really gross things baby's spit up - Tide however does this much better lol.  It's always worked for my kid's and the truly gross things they do.

Lysol is a disinfectant and chemical, and Febreeze only masks the smell for so long. You really don't want your kid smelling that all the time. You need to remove and breakdown everything that is causing the smell. Sometimes a good pet odor/stain remover works too, but again, you want to be carefull about the chemicals you are putting into your childs toys.

  8. Leg Drop them

  9. You may just have to emerge them in water and wash them well. Rinse them and hang them out to drip dry.

Or try washing them in the machine tied up in a pillow case.

Maybe use lysol as a second resort.

  10. I know it says not to wash him, but seriously - try it on the gentle cycle of your machine, I bet it'll be fine.  I wash my little guys stuffed animals like that all the time !
