Question:

Best way to clean new kitchen wood floors?

My entire house is now wood, in the rest of the house I use murpheys oil with a sponge mop (diluated of course) and wet pads for my swifter made for wood floors. However, we just did the kitchen (stripped out the vinyl, sanded, stained and polyed it all) and they don't seem to look as shiny as the rest of the house so Im concerned with cleaning. It may just be because I used a darker color this time...I did Mahogany in the kitchen and the rest of the house is Oak.

I did two coats of poly and I have it the way I want it, water beads up if I put a drop there, so that kinda tells me its sealed. Right?

Should I just clean them the same way I do the other wood floors in my house? I guess I'm worried because it was so much work to get the floors where they are now and I dont want to ruin them after all that time and labor I put in.

Thanks!

  1. I use a slightly damp mop on mine or a Swiffer with a light pritz of cleaning solution.  The reason your new wood floors may not be as shiny, may be the TYPE of Poly you laid down.  My Mom had hers done with a VERY shiny Poly, I have mine done in Satin, still looks very nice, but the shiny, I think, is a little easier to see the dirt on and gets dirtier faster.  The Satin hides a lot of sin.  Hope this helps you!  Good luck!

  2. Murphy's Soap is what I use and if I run out a damp mop with white vinegar  will do the same .
