Question:

Best way to decrease noise in warehouse between businesses?

I just leased a new space to move my dog business into. I occupy approximately half of a 20,000 warehouse. The landlords installed a metal firewall on both sides to divide the space with sheetrock in between the metal firewall. I haven't even moved in yet and am just "making ready" right now, but I can actually hear the neighboring business owner sneeze!

He's going to go crazy with dogs barking from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. I want to be a good quiet neighbor.

What type of insulation or noise deadening material can I put over my side of the dividing wall to help decrease the noise? I really want to be a good neighbor.

  1. Approach the owner with regard the 'sound-proofing' of the building.

Speak with your neighbour and advise him of your ability to hear him 'thinking' and that your business is going to be noisy too.

As a joint force you and he could afford better sound proofing and you could then [or before] approach the owner's again and offer to pay a small increase in you rents for a specified period, to cover his costs, then he could up the rent for the next tenants because he would have a better rental to offer.

If you attempt it yourself, wool batts or similar and a product like egg cartons are good insulators. Hope this helps out some. Good luck.
