Okay, so someone threw a dead possum in my garbage can and let it fester outside for a day, It smells really bad and I need to take care of it, how much would it cost to replace the can or even, deodorize it, what would be the best method.

  1. I would just throw the can in the dumpster and get a new one cause I dont think you will be able to get the smell out.For a new trash can you would probably spend at least $8.00 for a good one..good luck hope this helps.

  2. use lysol and hot water, then use sented garbage bags.

  3. use bleach or ammonia and a lil pine sol or Lysol

  4. The effort and product that it will require to bring it back to a normal scent is far more expensive than buying a new bucket.

Plastic absorbs odors and it is so hard to get rid of them.

Who the heck would throw a dead possum in someones trash can?  Another question for another time...

  5. call animal control or something. get the possom gone and power wash the s*** outta it. then soap and water it. if that doesnt work...just get a new one.

  6. Yes, you can get the stench out of can.  Get some warm water (a black hose in the sun will work) and some baking soda and white vinegar.  First, simply rinse out the can as much as possible.  I would lay it on its side to do this, removing as much icky material out of it.  Once the water has drained out, stand it upright and dump in a 1/2 gallon of the white vinegar and follow it with several cups of baking soda.  It will fizz up alot.  Using a toliet cleaner brush, brush the sides and bottom of the can thoroughly, making sure to get any bits of paper, possum or filth off the can the you can.  DO NOT EMPTY this YET.  Let stand for a 1/2 hour with the lid on (make sure you have swished on some solution on the lid too) close it up.  After a 1/2 or more, come back, wash, scrub the sides and lid again.  Empty the contents.  Should smell better and the worst of it should be gone.  If there is any smell left, it should be minimal, but if its enough you don't want to smell it, rinse out the can and now add some more warmed water, and add 1-2 cups of bleach and 1 table spoon of dish washing liquid.  Scrub the sides and lid again, let stand for another 1/2 hour.  Come back, one more scrub for lid and container then empty, rinse and stand upside down and let thoroughly dry in the hot sun!  There really should be no smell left.  If this doesn't kill it, then there is nothing short of using it as an animal control dump can that I can think of.  To keep this from happening again, pour 2 cups of baking soda inside and sprinkle all around,  Will keep the can fresh smelling and if anything does get on the inside again, it will make it much easier to clean it and keep it fresh. ope this helps you!  Good luck!
