Best way to drive from San Jose Costa Rica airport to Manuel Antonio Park?

We are going to Costa Rica in January. We would like to go to Manuel Antonio Park and I thought it might be interesting to drive. However, we don't like driving on mountainous roads with no guard rails, and I understand that the valley route includes a rope bridge. What is the best way to go to stay on a high quality road, even if it takes a little longer to get there?

Both roads are mountainous with few guard rails however the old and most direct road through Atenas is windier and more hair raising.  The traffic on the Panamanian high way is very slow because of all the trucks so you shouldn't get as stressed.  Once you get to the coast, just follow the signs to Jaco and then to Manuel Antonio.  I can't remember a rope bridge on either of the two most travelled routes.

I agree with the person who respond before.

Take the route through Atenas and enjoy the ride. There is no rope bridge on the way.

Another option is take a bus. Gray line has a daily service to Manuel Antonio.

Keep in mind, Costa Rican roads are pretty narrow, with no shoulder, or guard rails, and there is often a HUGE drop off the side of this road.  You will not be able to casually drive and check out the scenery along the way too much.  You will need to concentrate on driving.  If it is in your budget, the absolute best way is to hire a private taxi.  That way you can stop wherever you like, and go at your own pace.  

There is a bridge on the way (not a rope bridge) that is inhabited by hundreds of huge crocodiles underneath.  This is one place that is worth stopping at, not to mention all of the incredible cliff-side vistas you will be passing.
