Question:

Best way to edit & transfer Video8 (Sony CCD-TR550E) & VHS tapes to DVD please. I have HP Media Centre PC?

I have about 40 Video8 tapes, with footage 'here & there' on different tapes that I need to integrate; some I've edited through two VCRS with slow mo, snap shots & music tracks added, but that took days to do - it's on VHS.

My PC has Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II (26xxx), Muvee autoProducer 5.0 SE & Windows MovieMaker, Sonic MyDVDPlus V10.

I have experimented but want a quality end product that can play on DVD players and don't want to have to do it all again later.

Should I:-

Edit & convert to VHS using a coaxial cable to PC

(See if I can get a VHS video editing machine?)

Edit to VHS & buy a VHS to DVD recorder (don't really want 3 VHS players..)

Use the red & white leads from the camera or a composite cable to the analogue converter in the PC & edit in PC.

There are too many and too much editing to outsource so if I have to buy gear to help me do the job well and more easily so be it.

I'm hoping someone can tell me a good way to do this please.

Many thanks.

  1. This can be pretty easy....

If you have an analog (VHS) camcorder…

You need an analog converter, either internal card or external such as the dazzle. It's very easy to use and come with good software. You would hook your analog VHS camera or VCR to the analog converter, the dazzle and then hook the dazzle to your PC. The dazzle cost around 70.00 , but worth the money if you have a lot of VHS to tapes to convert.

**Please Note There is no 8mm or Hi 8 to VHS Adapter that currently exsists. This type of VHS Adapter only exsists with VHS-C tape**

This will work if you still have the camcorder that plays your video8 camcorder.

  2. You may use the best software I have seen AVS Video Tools. It can convert to/from all key format, upload video or DVD directly to key portables like iPod, Sony PSP, Archos, Zen Creative, and mobiles.

It can capture video from DV or webcams, TV tuners, DVB-T, DVB-S, transfer VHS tapes to DVD, remove commercials, edit video, copy and burn DVDs and video files: AVI (DivX, XviD, etc.), MP4, WMV, 3GP, 3G2, QuickTime (MOV, QT), SWF, DVD, VOB, VRO, MPEG 1,2,4, MPG, DAT, VCD, SVCD, ASF, H.263, H.264, RM, DVR-MS.
