Hi guys. I'm from ireland and have 3 years left before i qualify with my degree. After that all I want to do is move to the U.S and become a marine. I cant realy explain why I want this, as logic would suggest, staying in ireland and building a career would be a lot easier, safer and i'd make more money but all i can think about is being a marine. I have a few questions and any info would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible to get a work visa if your joining the marine corps or whats the best way to get a visa? Is the Green card lotto worth a shot? If i won a Green card in the lotto would i have to go to the U.S immediatly or can I finish my degree first as i would want to finish it? And finally can a persons citizenship application be accelerated if they are serving in the armed forces? Thanks again

  1. I would recommend you to first study the marines and the life of a marine. It might not be what you expect. Brochures and TV commercials make it look fun, but in reality is a lot different. Good luck on your decision.

  2. Check with a US Marine Corps recruiter. . The US will accept non-citizens into the military but only as non-coms. Officers must be citizens.

Be aware that the marines are very selective and you have to be in fabulous shape. If the Marines turn you down, the US Army would likely be willing to look at you as well.

Generally, after serving getting US citizenship is not automatic other than posthumously. However, if you survive, serving is a big help.

And try the green card lotto. While the odds are long, at least it is free.

  3. put some money in the bank of your choice.
