Travelling to the UK from Australia for a holiday. Need to get from Reading to Edinburgh on the afternoon of the 16th April, what's the cheapest and nicest way to travel?

Train or flight? and which station/airport/company is best?

  1. Cheapest would be to fly (for certain) as rail prices are expensive.

Look up prices for BA flights to Edinburgh as i am sure they will be cheaper. Also much quicker than the train.

I have done the journey from Southampton - Edinburgh years ago and it took 8-9 hours. Was ok but nothing to rave about.

The flight will only be 1-2 hours.

  2. If you book your ticket in advance through national express the fare will be £14-00 travelling on the 9 or 10 o'clock train.

The price goes up to £24-50 from then on.

Journey time 4hours 32Min's. Hope this helps.

  3. Train definitely nice trip about 5 hours.  Leave from reading by tain to london change trains for edinburgh, contact national rail or go online to there web page to see times, schedules etc.

    http://www.nationalrail.co.uk   for schedules

    Have a pleasant vacation.

If you prefer to flt gatwick/heathrow airports are only 1hr or so from reading.

  4. the train...the scenery is lovely and the trip is very relaxing

  5. I believe flights and rail travel are almost equal in cost. It depends if you are returning and how quickly you need to get there. You might be better able to appreciate the scenery from the train, depending on the weather.
