Question:

Best way to get into ANY locked car?

I am a cop, and am tired of not getting into newer model cars with my slim jim. Any recommendations for a relatively unskilled way to get into multiple types/models of cars? I don't have a problem with the older ones with my slim jim, but I've not been able to get into anything after about a 2000 model. Thanks.

  1. Calling a locksmith.  The city doesn't need the liability.

  2. Break a window.

  3. Break the window with your night stick.

    It works every time.

  4. There are specialty tools available to locksmiths.  I took several courses while on the job before I retired.  Most suppliers will not sell to the Police without a written explanation from their Commanding Officer.  Cheaper versions are available, but will break off in the door.

  5. well best way to get into ANY locked car would definitely be.. using a key :)

  6. Try a Z-Tool, they work pretty good, but I have broken a few because the metal isnt as flexible as a slim jim

  7. they make a new kit with plastic wedges and a pump up bag it works very easy on anything

  8. I have to agree with calling the locksmiths.  You received training in law enforcement, they are the experts on locks.

I assume that you are opening locked cars for owners that lock their keys inside.  Liability issues are so great that most departments have given up on unlocking cars under these circumstances.  After the locksmith opens the door, suggest that the driver get a spare key, that will be carried separately from the keys the driver uses.  It does not have to start the car (in some cases that would require programming the chip) just open the door.  I carry mine in my wallet, haven't been locked out in 25 years.

If there is a reason you must open the car immediately (child locked inside?) take out the window with your baton!  It's fast and works on all makes and models.

  9. Not sure why you need to get into locked cars unless you have a search warrant or other valid reason and in that case I'm sure there is someone in your detachment that can help you. Otherwise, call a locksmith.

  11. A tool called "The Big Easy" will open almost anything. Just search for "big easy lockout tool" on the internet,
