Best way to get rid of tough stains on carpet?

I'm currently renting an apartment and I have some stains on the carpet. I spilled a bottle of water on my printer and some of the ink got on the carpet a few weeks ago and today I split mustard.

I've tried detergent, peroxide and vinegar but the gray carpet is still kinda yellow. What products should I try? Should I also try a steam carpet cleaner? My parents have one, but I need to know if it's worth the drive. I've head mustard is impossible to get out.

....or try Folex carpet cleaner found at grocery and home improvement stores.

Really bad news.... mustard IS impossible to get out.  It acts as a dye... and actually has dyed the carpet.  

What I have done in the past for stains in general however...  I get a bowl of water and a wash rag  -  and also a can of Ajax cleanser.   I get the stain wet and then sprinkle the cleanser...  just a little... onto the stain.  I use the wash towel to scrub the cleanser into the stain.  I then dip the towel in to the water and scrub again.  I repeat the process until the stain is either lifted or lightened.

Go to you auto store and buy a can of Tuff stuff. This works super on everything I ever spilled on carpet.

My grand kids are realllll good a spilling. Trust me they are pros at it..:-)

Mustard and printer ink are two of the toughest stains to remove.  If you want to have a better chance of removing them, do not try to clean them anymore by yourself.  You could actually be setting the stains and making them permanent.  You will need to call and have your carpet professionally cleaned.  They have pretreating agents made specifically for your types of stains.  It will also get the entire carpet cleaner than what you could do with a portable machine
