Best way to get started in diving?

Make sure all your fears are discussed with the Dive Master before you even go in the water.  Do use either a NAUI or PADI certified dive instructor.  And you will find the accredited diving schools at the websites below.

Best way?  if you can find one that has its lessons on a live aboard boat, I think that is the best way.  I learned that way in Hawaii with a PADI instructor.  It was great.  From what I understand they will usually do most of the introduction in a pool then take you out in the ocean for 1 or 2 dives.  Be prepared for some book learning but, it is necessary to grasp what you are doing in the water.  

Also buy your own Mask, Fins and Snorkel.  At least those things are very personal, like skiing, you would have your own gloves, ski mask and boots.  I wear glasses and had a prescription lens put in my mask, so that is why I say it's personal.

There are many dive shops in Thailand that are listed in both websites so there should not be a problem in finding one to take care of you.  Prices may vary.

well i got certified through naui but padi is fine too, i would say go through naui or padi   don;t go through any others(naui and padi are diving certification companies that teach and certify people to scuba dive)

you have to go to a dive shop and most all of them have classes, be aware diving is probabley the most expensive sport out there, besides like horseracing or car racing or flying planes, it is expensive

but you will have to do alot of bookwork and learn alot of technical things then you will have training dive in pools or the ocean or a lake or spring

Padi is about the only way to go diving but make sure you can swim first.
