I used to run track back in high school and was fairly good running long distance. I'm 23 now and weigh 140 ( 5'7'').

I'm running a horrible 1.5 mile time of 14:50 seconds now. I've managed to get it down 1 min with in 2 days of hard workouts. I have 6 days to get it down to a better time. I've been running 1.5 mile, walking about 400 meters , sprinting 100m's then walking 200 m's about 4 times then running another 1.5 mile. I've done that the past 3 days. How can I improve fast?

  1. Run about 4 miles everyday.  Running more will make 1.5 miles seem like a piece of cake.

  2. remember its not all about the workouts.

EAT HEALTHY and get plenty of sleep

  3. Breathing technique is important, look it up on the web. Also a good breakfast does wonders.

  4. push your self boy this aint no broke back mountain

  5. sterioids

    or keep running

  6. 6 days isn't really enough time to improve significantly.  but try and get three good workouts of 5 to 6 miles as hard as you can, rest the day before and make sure you're getting enough carbs, protein and water.  oh, and make sure you stretch good the night before.  good luck

  7. I am afraid I am going to suggest something you aren't going to like.

You mention that you have lowered your time by a minute due to the completion of two days of hard workouts. Improvement that quick comes at a price. You are already abusing your body and if you continue you can expect your times to get slower not faster.

With six days to go I recommend that you take two days off and on one day run perhaps four miles at a comfortable pace. Then, rest until your race. Allow those speed workouts and time trials to pay off.
