Best way to improve deer hunting

Question

I hunt on some private property near Covington in Middle Ga. The last few yaer we have not seen many deer and I am worried. We planted food plots 2 years ago and this help but it still didnt bring in any big deer into the area. We plan to plant food plots again this year. We have put some corn on the ground and we have a few salt licks.

The property is 150 acres and has a pasture, some thick wood, and 2 creeks running through the property. Does anyone have some suggestion to make the deer herd better?

i have noticed this in doves, hehe when i we used to hunt them at my dads ranch, over the years we started to notice that less and less would fly over the ranch while at my home doves and pigeons were flying around everywhere. they are smarter than you think and i'm pretty sure they avoid areas where they know they will be killed. Its a passtime that we have little use for now a days its a shame despite how much we have advanced we still haven't recognized how similar animals are to us.  .....on a lighter note you can also try kidnapping one tieing it to a chair and beating it to death until he coughs up where the rest of them are....that'll teach that deer.

I would most likely say that area is just in a down cycle and that there is no magic tricks just wait it out it will come back around and payoff big patience is the answer here.

Are you sure it didn't bring in any deer, or are you just not seeing them? The only thing I can think off is making a kind of food plot from the forest. By that I mean stuff like fertilizing fruit trees and oaks that will drop acorns and cutting away thick underbrush so saplings and berry bushes can grow and give the deer some browse at their preferred height.

maybe you've killed them all off.  how about letting the poor critters live and thrive until there are so many that you don't need to worry about having enough.

Some times the deer go through cycles, of an increase and a decrease in deer population. Perhaps this is what is happening in your case, but what has happened around your property? Has another food source opened up? Is there another lease around you that is managing their property to the max? There are three things that deer require to flourish- food, water, and cover- you mentioned food and water, what about some thickets that they can use for a bedding area, and a sanctuary. There needs to be some place on your property that the deer will feel safe in, some place that no one walks through, or gets too close too-deer will not stay on your property without it, and you will only get those that happen to be passing through. If the area is not there , you may want to clear cut an area of about 5 acres and let it grow up in thicket that will be off limits to hunters- it will take about 3 years for it to develop into something the deer will feel safe in, but it will provide a terrific food source while it is growing up- Good luck!

I think the deer are there but you aren't seeing them. I'm guessing you sit on the ground. Get up in a tree. Build a permanentstand if you can.

Same thing happened at my property (helped along by poachers). I just did what i could to help make the land as appealing to deer as possible (and called the DNR as i knew exactly who the scumbags were) and spent a couple seasons on public land. Now i've got more deer than ever before.

I've said it before and ill say it again, hunters save animals. We've got a vested interest in helping to keep these animals populations up. No hunters means no regulations, no regulations means poachers, and poachers don't care about seasons or bag limits. In short, all you antis can kiss my ***.
