Recently I've started making humidors, and I like the way they look when one uses quadrant hinges. My problem is counter-sinking the hinges flush with the wood and still making it look good. Does anyone have any tips on special chisels, other tools or special techniques that result in a nice, tight, professional looking area around the hinges? I've blundered through them using small chisels, but still they don't look quite as professional as I would like them to be. Also, I've seen the templates designed for use on quandrant hinges, and was wondering if they really work as well as they are advertised. I have a normal portable router but I'm concerned it may be too large to accurately control. Does anyone have any experinec in using a template? The template alone is about 60 bucks, then any special attachment to accomodate the precise hinge size is another 6 bucks. Then if I need a small router, well the price is becoming quite expensive.
