the whites of my eyes change from yellow, to red, to orange...just dingy in general. i can't remember when i had white eyes last. i suspect it is because of health, but when i went to the doctor, i got an ignorant young man who said that ethic people have off color eyes, perhaps they are supposed to be that way. i was appalled.

other doctors had not been any help either.

i have ruled out allergies because i notice they are the most red in the morning i wonder if it has something to with the blood or blood pressure?

i have no idea, what do u think?

  1. If they are yellow you have jaundice which means you have a liver disease . Do you smoke cigarettes or pot that can make them turn colors and also lack of sleep. Try Vising red eye if that don't help ,go to an eye doctor .

  2. If your eyes become more red and irritated as the day goes on the most likely cause is dry eye

Chronic, longstanding redness of the eyes is most commonly caused by either chronic meibomitis (inflammation of the oils glands in the eye lid) or dry eye.  If symptoms are worse upon awakening, and especially if the eyes are their most red upon first eye opening in the morning, the most likely cause of the redness is posterior blepharitis or meibomitis.  See your doctor and ask him if you would benefit from TheraTears Nutrition, an omega-3 supplement containing flaxseed and fish oils and vitamin E) or an oral tetracycline

Some people may notice that their symptoms have two peaks--one in the morning upon awakening, and a second that occurs late in the day.  This is usually caused by having meibomitis, resulting in morning symptoms, and dry eye from dysfunction of the oil glands in the eye lid, with the increase in tear evaporation causing the symptoms late in the day.

People with dry eye which is caused by  dysfunction of the oil glands in their lids will "feel like" their eyes are tearing.  This is because the oil layer, in addition to coating the tear film and retarding evaporation, helps hold the tears tight to the eye surface.  With a decrease or loss of this layer the tears splash around more when you blink, and it can feel like you eyes are tearing, even though tears are not rolling down your cheek.  Your eye doctor can look at the openings of these oil glands and evaluate their status when he examines you.

Artificial tears have been the mainstay of dry eye treatment.  Until recently, these used to be recommended like cigarette brands--doctors would hand out whatever they had in the sample closet, and patients would pick their brand.  Patients would find that no matter how long or how frequently they used these drops their eyes would still be dry.  Fortunately, Jeffrey Gilbard, MD, working at Harvard Medical School's Schepens Eye Research Institute, has developed an eye drop call TheraTears. This eye drop has been shown in peer-reviewed published studies to promote healing in dry eye.  In addition, doctors are now recommending patients start immediately on an omega-3 dietary supplement called TheraTears Nutrition, taking 4 soft gels in the morning.  TheraTears Nutrition improves eye comfort in the upon awakening and throughout the day.

TheraTears (lubricant eye drops) works two ways.  As an eye becomes dry the tear film loses water and becomes more concentrated.  TheraTears is hypotonic, having more water relative to salt, and has been shown to rehdyrate the tear film.  This "takes the gas out of the engine" causing dry eye irritation.  Second,  the electrolyte balance of TheraTears matches that in the human tear film which has been shown to be biologically active in keeping the eye surface healthy

TheraTears treatment is not enough.  For these patients doctors typically insert  "punctal plugs."  Punctal plugs are tiny plastic plugs that block tear drainage out of the eye.  They increase the efficacy of TheraTears, and there are few dry eye patients who are not helped by the combination of TheraTears and punctal plugs.

Irritated dry eyes might be cause by allergies, lack of sleep; eyemake-up; infections; computer eye strain; prolonged use of contact lens; smoke;dust; etc.

Irritated or red eyes may be caused by a deficiency in the essential, unsaturated fats, such as omega-3 and omega-6.

    Remedies

    Folk

Aloe Mix one part of standard strength aloe vera juice with two parts of saline solution (the kind sold for contact lenses). Use this mixture several times a day.

Apply cucumber slices to each eye for relief

Make an infusion of eyebright and put a warm compress of this infusion over your eyes for at least 10 minutes. Repeat as often as necessary

To get rid of wattery, irrated eyes after cutting onions simply run your wrists under ice cold water,IT REALLY WORKS

Alternately apply cold water and a cloth soaked in hot water to the eyes several times

Mix in a 1 or 2 oz. glass bottle with a glass dropper the following-

    5 parts distilled water

    2 parts pure organic honey

    1 part apple cider vinegar

Lay down and put 1 drop in one eye and roll eye around. Then do the same for the other eye. This relieves red, irritated eyes, and gets yuk out. Refrigerate solution

For a pre-prepared, over the counter solution to red, irritated eyes use a product called 'Collyrium,' available in most pharmacies. It's an excellent product containing boric acid which cleared conjuntivitis in 24 hours in my case

  3. ok so i know you may have been offended at what that doctor said but there may be some truth to it! it is true that african americans and other people with dark skin tones are known to have a darker shade of white. it is all about pigmentation. my husband has been bothered with this for about 6 years now. one of the specialist he saw siad to be sure to get checked for glaucoma. hope that help. other than that eye drops can help to keep the white.
