Question:

Best way to pack before you move?

We have a month to move (so lots of time). And I want to be pretty organized so that the unpacking won't be a nightmare.

We can't actually MOVE anything till the end of the month. So what should I pack first, and what should I leave for last. (other than furniture duh)

I was thinking of packing most of the dishes and clothes, and just about a weeks worth.

What do you all think?

  1. pack the stuff that you will not be needing for a while and also keep your stuff very organized such as keeping each type of stuff in certain boxes x x

  2. Number each of your boxes, and, list items within the box  on a list (with the number) that you can keep with you.  That way if some of the items you pack are needed for an emergency you can get them quick.  Then:

Keep out only the most basic things. Think of it as a vacation with very little room for carry-ons. Dishes- just 1 place setting for each family member. Stick to easy meals. Pack everything else.

  3. Take it one room at a time. Make sure you properly label each box far as what's in it and what room it belongs to. Things you won't need for the remainder of your stay, pack first and sit aside. Things you will need up until the move you can just leave in a open box so all you have to do is just tape it up when the time comes. Also remember to put things you'll need on the first day at your new place such as toilet paper, wash rags, towels etc. together and labled. Moving time is also a good time to get rid of things you don't need.

  4. use space bags. it really works. you can put so much in a couple of bags and there will be a lot of more space for you to pack other things. also, sort through the things that you need and you don't need, such as papers, pencils shorter than you pinkie, and broken cups. also, give the things you don't need to charity. it will give you the motivation to give more, while de-cluttering you packing load. i have used these techniques  with my mom to move. it really works , trust me!

packing first: decor, useless items that you use a couple of times, small furniture

packing second: clothes, toys, rugs, paperwork.

    packing third: everything that's left!

  5. i think you should pack your clothes and furnitures nd just  bout a week

  6. Pack up all of your things you can do with out, like wall hangs. Then look at your cloths and see how many you real mead.Place everything in one room. pack your ex-bed cloths and thing like this.

  7. The first things I packed with our last move which was less than a year ago is take all the decoration down and pictures off the walls. Leave the walls bare. That way you can fill in holes to be painted over.

Next I put away my kitchen items like special dishes and yearly items.

Then my linens all, but what we need to use.

I had pretty much everything packed 3 weeks ahead.

I bought some cheap laundry baskets from Walmart to put things in that I would need right away like- a roll of toilet paper, a roll of paper towels, any medications, a first aid box, some paper plates, utencils, and cups, some bottles of water and some snacks. I also had in a towel for each of us and a few cleaning supplies.

I put that in the back of my car.

I also had some breakables that I wrapped up and kept in the laundry basket in my car. I didn't want them breaking them.

Good luck with your move. It doesn't have to be stressful and expecially if you start right now. The sooner the better.
