My daughter is almost 19 months old. I have bought a potty and was wondering the best technique for potty training. It's been 10 years since my son was potty trained and I forget! Any helpful suggestions?

  1. well when my lil girl was 1 i bought her a potty chair i knew she was to lil to really be fully potty trained but i  got it so she could sit on it and just kinda play and get used to it then when she turned 2 i really started working with her and i didnt think she would ever get it and about 1 week before she turned 3 i put panties on her like i always would cause thats what i done during the day let her wear panties she just stared going and has never wet the bed and she is now 4 1/2 yr old

  2. I've just potty trained my two-year-old son,I started on his 2nd birthday, the nursery he goes to told me it was to early, but I tried him anyway,I sat him on the potty and told him to wee-wee and every time you need a wee-wee go on the potty. I made him a 'potty chart' and every time he used the potty by himself he would get a star. He had NO problems and within one week,he was using the potty. Its all down to the child. Don't let people tell you she's to young.

    Good luck x*x

  3. Given her age (VERY  young) my first advice would be to wait at least 6-9 months before starting any real attempts.  If you want to have the potty around, and talk about it casually from time to time, that's fine, but at 19 months the odds of successful training (at least not without a LOT of time and effort are extremely remote.)

I'd probably wait until next summer, and do 'naked training' -- strip her below the waist and let her run around bare.  When she pees, point it out to her and suggest that next time she try to put it in the potty. For many kids, the connection between seeing what's happening and feeling it helps then understand what is expected of them much faster than just making them sit on the potty for hours every day.

Of course if she shows clear signs of readiness and interest before then (wants to wear undies, can stay dry for several hours at a time, has control over her sphincters and can talk about potties/walk to the potty and manage her own clothing with minimal help) you can start sooner.  OTOH, if she is resistant next summer -- forget about it until she IS ready.

  4. I think 19 months is too young.

  5. my daughter was 3 in june and she is only just in the last 4 months been potty trained, i told her what a potty was for from about 19 months but she wasnt interested, now she wont even wear a nappy for bed and she stays dry, its great and just in time for starting nursery, i no its added expense buying nappies i shud no i was buying em for 2 ,  but you just have to bear with em, try making a reward chart with her and if she does sit on her potty give her a book or toy to play with to help her relax.xx
