im struggling to think of a good way to practice chipping at home. considering the fact that a chip shot spends 1/3 of its time in the air and 2/3 of its time rolling, id need a somewhat flat surface to chip onto. however, i dont have such a place. the grass in my yard is too long and the golf ball wont roll and my driveway is slanted and is way faster than any green ive ever played on. any ideas?

  1. practice, flying the ball 30 to 35 yds. don't worry about the roll.

get a bucket and hit 100 a day. You must knock a few in the bucket. Then at the course everything will work it's self out.

  2. what you could do is buy one of those chreap outting greens at home depot or you can roll some carpet but a heap idea is stick a pole or a broom stick or any stick stick it in the ground and dig a small home around it. you could also buy a chipping net from a local golf store

  3. Lock your eyes on the ball. Your eyes are moving just before impact. Trust me.

  4. see if u can get a large piece of carpet to roll out on your yard when u want to practice, i try chipping into a 5 gallon bucket, that way i know the distance in air and it really helps at the course, because i can tell where to land the ball and then read the green as if i were putting

  5. When it comes to chipping, it's all about where the ball lands.

Yes, it's true that the ball does continue on a path towards the hole after impacting the ground...but if you can get good enough to hit a landing spot everytime, then the rest will take care of itself.

Practice chipping to a specific area of your yard (or a five gallon bucket).  Get good at that and you'll see your chipping game improve dramatically.
