Can you give me advice on what to say or if it's possible to "follow" a meteorologist for a night or so to learn about the weather and how they do it on TV. I understand weather, and technology, but I'd like to see them work. Any advice on what to say?

  1. I don't know if shadowing is an option for meteorologists. Contact them and find out! I'm sure they won't mind your visit.

  2. Yeah you can do it. Call up the news station in your area and ask if they could give you a tour of the station or simply ask if you could shadow one of the meteorologist there. There's nothing really special to say. They won't mind, you'll get to sit in on them see the techniques they use to forecast how they make their graphics and then when it's time for the show to air you can into the studio and watch them. Most stations welcome visitors. Especially students or someone who may want to get into broadcast, or just someone interested. You can also build networks to help you in the future.

  3. Go and join AccuWeather.com's new site AccuKidz.com You can interact with other weather teams and post questions to the meteorologists there.  If you live near State College, PA, which is their headquarters, you can get a guided tour of their facilities.

AccuWeather's Headquarters has the highest number of meteorologists working together in one location in the world.
