I need to remove or lower the roof gutter and then reinstall it after I replace some rotting fascia. The rotting fascia is at the valley of the roof. The gutter is one piece with 8" going one way and then turning for a 10' run. What is the best tool/ method to remove or lower the gutter and then reinstall it?

  1. O-o-oh, mah fren'!!  Depending on what material your gutters are made of; how they are 'hung/supported' to the sides of your fascia boards; and what kind of joints there are at the connections to the rest of your guttering, you MIGHT have a fairly easy job of removing the right angle section to be set aside while you do your desired repairs to the rotting fascia --* IF* you have a couple of good friends to help you do it.

If the guttering is continuous-run aluminum construction, *I* would call in experienced craftsmen in installing such guttering systems to handle the temporary removal and later replacement of said right-angle section.  I (in my younger years), like you, feel that I could handle the carpentry work myself (*with a little help* from a good friend). <G>

  2. You need to be able to pull the spikes out, use of a nail bar or cats paw is required.  position nail  bar  between the gutter and the nail head, careful not to dent gutter, with the bar going up, and on a sturdy ladder, strike bar with a hammer just above the gutter edge forcing the spike out.   repeat at each spike.. your should be able to reinstall all the same parts when your finished with your repairs
