Best way to shoot blanks from Ruger Old Army?

Blackpowder pistol, w/out using the ball, is there enough friction in the grease patch to hold the charge?

  1. I used to do Civil War re-enacting. We loaded the revolvers (1960 Colt Army 44 ) with a 30 grain charge of FFFg and filled the rest of the cylinder cavity with "dry-uncooked" Cream of Wheat then compressed the load with the ball seater and applied spit patch to prevent a chain-fire. When you shoot it adds a bit to the smoke, is fire resistant and is completely biodegradable. The Cream of Wheat gives the needed compression to get the loud bang from the powder.


  2. Absolutely. Just use your patches with light loads.

  3. i would use a small cardboard wad cut a little larger than the cylinder over the powdercharge. you could use an old 45 shell for a punch to cut them out.

    be sure to use a plug of lube on top of the wad to prevent chain firing of the other cylinders.
