Question:

Best way to spread car seat info?

I am only 19, w/ no kids, but car seat safety is important to me. I would really like to spread word about the Britax Regent and the Radian80, which both hold kids up to 80lbs, but how should I do that? Will people think it's weird that a teen w/ no kids is saying it, and disregard good safety info? And how would I become a car seat technician, the one who makes sure that the seats are installed correctly?

  1. sounds like someone from the company try to find a loop hole in the guidlines and trying to market their seat to everyone on Yahoo Answers to me.

  2. The best way to spread car seat safety awareness is go to local hospitals with info on the car seat and leave it with the maternity ward. go to local clinics and leave info there too for new moms. And to be a car seat tech go to your local fire station and ask them. they are normally the ones that do car seat checks on the carseats.

  3. There are a ton of carseats that hold kids up to that weight.  I have a Safety1st convertible carseat that goes to 100 pounds.

I live in British Columbia, Canada and this past year there has been legislation put in place that a child must be in a booster seat up to the age of 9 or 4'9" tall.

  4. My cousin went to a car seat training that lasted for 8 hours/day, for one whole week to become a car seat technician.  I think that you should look into that.  I will talk to her and find out and then edit this.

  5. If you'll check my answers, you'll see I'm passionate about it, too. This is how I spread the word. That and telling anyone I meet who will listen to me. One note, though, the Radian80 is not ever going to hold any child to 80lbs. It is the exact same seat as the Radian65, just tested to a higher limit. That means the top slots are the same: 18". Its likely a child could get to 65lbs in the Radian65 with 18" top slots, but not at all likely a child is going to get to 80lbs with only 18" top slots. Also, I very rarely even recommend the seat b/c it can be such a bear to install unless the car has LATCH, and then LATCH only goes to 40-48lbs so they're going to have to use the seatbelt at some point. It frequently does not install well using the seatbelt, and is completely incompatible with many cars that have forward of the bight seatbelts.

My son does have a Britax Regent, and its possible a child could get to 80lbs in that, it has the highest slots on the market at 20" and anyt ime someone has a bigger or taller than avg child like mine, I wholeheartedly recommend it. Its the only seat that would keep him harnessed until at least 4 years old. I have hopes of getting to 6 years old! It fits the avg kid till 7-8. But many kids don't even need that much seat - the Britax Frontier or Graco Nautilus will be plenty to get most kids harnessed to 5 years old and then make great boosters. Those aren't the only great seats out there - remember it all depends upon their budget, their vehicle, and their kids.

Definitely check out taking the CPST course. I'd love to - but I don't have $60 and I don't have anyone to watch my son for 40 hours while I take it.

  6. the best way to start is the hospital maternity ward, or the local firestation. i know around here, where i live, there is always car seat safty checks and classes for free at the local firestations or library.
