im training for a fitness test im gonna have to take soon and one the of things i have to do is swim 25 m underwater twice (without breathing of course). when swimming underwater whats the best technique to use? do i use constant flutter kicks or scissor kicks or a combination of both? or do i just glide as much as possible? and with arm movement should i use breaststroke or just keep arms overhead to keep a streamlined position and use legs? im new to swimming and for some reason i keep getting mixed results no matter which way i try. thanks

  1. face down, try not to blow out any air, butterfly kick, no arm movement, conserve all energy, look down and continue at a steady pace.

  2. rrbr1991 is wrong.  The best way to do this is do constant breastroke kick.  Also at the same time you must pull your arms down by your sides at a strong pace. (like your legs)  Do not use arms over your head, just keep moving them back by your side(pull) Also look down at the bottom, not straight.  It is better for your streamline when you keep your head down.

  3. *The most effective and least tiring stroke to use for underwater swimming is the breast-stroke, though slightly modified from the one you use for surface swim. Best way is to pull your arms more to a sideways and slightly downwards movement,  and slightly past your waist, instead of  in a downward movement with a short sweep. Tilt your head forward to see where you are going. Avoid using flutter or butterfly kicks as they exhaust you quickly. You may find yourself floating up to the surface, in which case, you should consciously execute  your armstroke  in a slightly upwards manner initially, in an effort to keep your body deeper under-water.

    Hope above helps.

  4. do slow breast stroke.......do one pull with both legs and arms........wait until you slow down with the gilde.....and pull again.........and do you mean 50 m underwater because thats a lot....or 25 m underwater twice (breath in between)

  5. I think the best way is to use a breastroke kick and a breastroke arm movement. That's the way I first learned it, and it has worked really well for me. You could also use a dolphin kick if you're good at it.
