I'll be heading to the Bahamas in a couple of weeks. Rather than staying at the resort for 5 days, I would like to travel to Freeport and even Nassau to get a full feel of the island. I'd like to here from people who have traveled around Grand Bahama--what is the best way to get around? Car rental is not an option; I'm thinking more of buses or taxis...?

  1. check out the fast ferry

  2. ride on a camel and pitch a tent.

  3. Where in the Bahamas are you staying? - what island? Freeport is on Grand Bahama Island & Nassau is on New Providence Island. You would have to take a plane between the two.

The best way to get arond both islands is the joyney bus service. It's about a dollar and takes you all over.

  4. The only way to travel from Freeport to Nassau is by plane. Freeport is on Grand Bahama Island and Nassau is on New Providence Island.

The jitney bus is your best inexpensive option on both islands to get around since you don't want to rent a car.  The cost is dollar or two depending where you want to go. The outlaying areas cost more. Taxis are also available and so are scooters.

    Good Luck and enjoy)

  5. I really enjoyed traveling around Grand Bahama Island by bus. Not only was it an inexpensive way to get around, they would play music which further added to my enjoyment of the experience.
