  1. No, we don't have trains in Canada, although our king, Sir John A. MacDonald, is working on getting a national railway built. We are hoping that once that is done, we can get electricity to everyone's igloo, and eventually a telegraph station at every fur trading post.

  2. There's another option, there are seaplanes from Vancouver to Comox. Check out http://www.westcoastair.com/  I did a price check on a one way flight flying next week and it's $149 each way. Better than $700 for sure. The thing is though that they leave out of downtown Vancouver. There is an express bus from right by the airport to downtown (within a 5 minute walk of the seaplane terminal) and it's cheap and relatively quick (about 30 minutes). You could also take a cab for about $30.

If the bus interests you, check out the Vancouver Transit website at http://www.translink.bc.ca and you're looking for route 98, northbound.

Also, just so you know, there is train service in Canada, although it's not as developed as other parts of the world. And of course with Comox being on Vancouver Island, that adds a bit of difficulty.

  3. Comox is on Vancouver Island; you can't take a train from Vancouver to Vancouver Island.  Either you fly to the island or take the ferry.

You could fly from Vancouver to Nanaimo ($50) and then take the bus to Comox.  or Via Rail from Nanaimo to Courtenay.

  4. Comox is located on Vancouver Island which is connected to the mainland only by a ferry service which is a part of the provincial highway system.  So basically the only way to travel between the two points is by road (bus or car) or by air.  You could travel to Victoria by bus then fly out of Victoria to Vancouver for around $123 plus tax.

Yes we do have trains in Canada however there is not a lot of passenger train service compared to other places.

  5. They tried putting railroad tracks from the mainland to Vancouver Island but for some reason they kept sinking.

To be more serious, if you're flying to Vancouver in order to get to Comox you might consider changing your travel plans and fly to Victoria instead.  Alaska Airlines has service to Victoria from Seattle.  If you're a Canadian, flying into Victoria is no big deal with regular service by both Air Canada and WestJet.  Once in Victoria you could take a bus (kind of a drag though)  take the E&N railroad (it's a dayliner commuter type train but it only runs once a day) or rent a car.  It's a pretty drive of about 3 hours and you might enjoy it.
