Best way to tumble gem stones.?

I was wondering if the tumble machines found in the craft stores will really tumble raw gem stones clean? Has anyone had experiance using one of these?

They will tumble the raw gem stones. We have one, but don't use it too often. We have in the past used it frequently.

The only advice I can say, is be prepared to keep it tumbling, sometimes for days on end. It is a LONG process, but they really DO come out looking really cool.

You might want to shop around or ask around at rock and gem stores too, often they know which model is best for a hobbiest.
