Best way to win at Betting Horse Racing?

Win/Place bets? Exactas? Trifectas?

I know I know .... you win WAY more with the exotics.. but man they are tough to get. and makes me made when I get the winner but miss the horses below it-- and I could have just put all that $ into the win and make a decent amount. I usually take 60-80 bucks when I go-- whats the best way to use that money to give myself a better shot in coming up enough "ahead" that it was worth it...........

What I usually do is bet the horse I like to Win but only if he is 2-1 or better.  If his odds are 5-1 or better I will also bet to Place.

If I like an exacta I will bet one way with my Win pick on top and then bet the other way for a lesser amount.  For example, I might bet $5 Win on 2, a $5 2-8 exacta and then a $2 8-2 exacta.  

For Tri's I bet 2 straight bets and then box the numbers.  For example I will bet 2-8-9, 2-9-8 for $2 straight and then box 2-8-9 for $1.

This still can be costly and doesn't always produce winners but I have had races where I had the winner, the exacta and the Tri straight and boxed.

Also, you might want to bet the least possible amount on the gimmicks and then gradually increase the amount bet as your bacnkroll grows.

Overall, its a tough game and can be frustrating at times but I still love it!

Decent?  lol.  you play a system and eventualy you will have a winner.

Look at your betting history. If you do not see any room for improving your chances of making your bet pay out as much as possible for as little bet, then you have to accept that your return on your bet is limited.

If you are betting to get a decent return, then you have to allow for so many picks and the odds.  :)

Its very hard to be a consistent winner on the horses ech year. Not too many people can do it. The best way to win on the horses is to write down all of your suggested bets/wagers in a book and bet on them hypothetically, and put the real money into your sock drawer instead of on the horse. You will have saved more money in your sock drawer than you would have won on the season.

Play the way you want.  Believe that if you win you are lucky.

Don't play more than you can lose.   Blame the trainers.  Not; the Jockeys.  The trainers have more to do with how a horse runs.  Put most of the Money in your POCKET.
