Question:

Best way to wire 2 SVC subwoofers to 2 or 4 mono bridged amplifiers?

I currently have 2 mono amplifiers rated at 320 watts RMS at 4-ohms and roughly 450 watts at 2-ohms(stable). I also have 2 SVC subwoofers rated at 650 RMS (4-ohm). Would bridging the two mono amplifiers with a bridging module (MAXX LINK - MXL-100 Universal Link & Sync) generate a sufficient amount of power to fully appreciate the capabilities of the subs? If so, what would the best (and still safe) option for wiring the subs? Series or parallel? I have read that bridging amps this way can effectively generate 4-times the power, which I would assume is an effective and supportive power supply for the two subs.

Part 2: Would it be worth it to buy another two amps (all same model and rating) and also bridge those two, effectively creating two amplifiers from the four and dedicating each pair of amps to one sub each?

I am just looking for an effective way to drive the subs with the components I have, if not, I will but 2 more of the same amps and go from there.

  1. What you have to find out is if you buy the bridging module and link the two amps together what will be the lowest impedance it can safely drive eg. 2ohm, 4ohm etc.

If it is 2 ohm stable then you will  wire your subs in parallel to get 2 ohms.  If it is 4 ohms stable when bridged then forget about bridging it.

It will be worth doubling up on the amps only if it is 2 ohm stable when bridged. But remember if you are running 4 amplifiers you will definatley have to upgrade your electrical system.
