Best ways to keep a diary?

Heya.

Just started keeping a diary and it doesn't feel special enough to me.

It's just a pad from the stationery store. I'm quite pleased with the entries but the appearance looks really plain and boring.

Help?

  1. I had the same problem, then i decided to make a 3D diary. I took a photo box, and whenever i felt the need to write, i wrote on the nearest scrap of paper. I tossed the paper into the box, and found myself with pieces of written on newspapers, and even a bracelet i wore on my first date. It looks pretty cool, and is a lot easier than always using the same stationary.

  2. i think you should decorate the cover with magazine clippings of all your likes and interest. make it look like you and unique which you probly are :)))

    hope i helped!!!!!

  3. Diaries are personal affairs. I don't have a diary, but I did keep a journal for a while that meant a lot to me. The trick is to make it feel right to you, and unfortunately no one can tell you how to do that. I can give you a little anecdote and some general advice of what I did, and maybe it'll help you personalize yours.

My journal started as one of those retarded little books you get at Wal-mart with the plastic cover and funny little "teenage" pictures they always put on them. Everyone has seen them, the "fun and vibrant" things with lined paper that only costs $3 and says something like "Journal" or "Diary" or "My Thoughts" on the cover.

I tried this little junk book for about a week and decided it just annoyed me too much to put anything real into. So I did some searching, and found this neat New Age/Pagan bookstore near my house called The Turning Wheel. They had all kinds of nifty stuff, and one thing they had was a cool journal section. Now most of these were meant for the aspiring practitioner of their faith and had labels like Book of Shadows or Spells.

Those didn't appeal to me, but they had this one book: it was the last one, leather bound with a string tie. The pages looked like they were parchment paper, and there were no lines inside. It was a totally freeform books of bound pages. It was perfect for me. Every time I put in an entry I would label the top outside portion of the page with the date, and then follow it with a quick synopsis of what I was about to write about, followed by details. I included pictures cut from other books, magazines, the news paper, or ones that I drew. I also included a section where I was learning about herbs and teas and stuff, which I augmented with little packets of the herbs stapled in. It was a great little book, and it was all mine. The cover never changed, though, and it was always plain brown leather.

    Bottom Line:

Your journal/diary should make you feel like you accomplished something when you write it in. If you don't, find something else. Above all else, the important thing is to be honest about what you write, include whatever comes to mind, and keep in personal.

  4. i guess you can cut out pictures you like from magizines and paste them on your diary

  5. decorate or buy a different 1 maybe you can draw on the other 1 or just buy a new fancy 1
