What are some really good ways to organize my room? I'm 16 yrs. old, and I really want to get organized for school, and just to keep a nice, neat room. Including, clothes, papers, books, shoes, everything, makeup. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

  1. Hi! It's great you want to get organized. I have to tell you, though, please don't start with shopping! Many people think that buying things will solve all of your problems, but often that just makes more clutter.

I would start by putting everything in groups, like-with-like. Once you see what you have, decide if you can get rid of or give away anything. Clothes that don't fit, old makeup, old papers, etc.

Then decide if you can store anything in other rooms. Old school papers and memorabilia may be able to be stored in boxes in closets or attics, etc.

Then start to assign zones for all of your stuff: clothes/shoes, beauty/hair/makeup, homework/books, entertainment, etc.

Now, you can go shopping! Underbed storage boxes and over-door hangers can be especially helpful. Target and Ikea are good places to go, but if you're on a budget, also try Big Lots, Kmart, Walmart, or Dollar Tree.

Most importantly, take 15 minutes a day to put things away, or at least back in their zones. This will keep your room organized. Good luck!

  2. IKEA has really good storage stuff. I would buy paper boxes to put papers and stuff in...thay also have chic makeup storage boxes (called ANORDNA) and nice shoeboxes. If you are looking for easy and cheap but still good solutions you should go there. It´s hard to tell you what you can do when I have no idea what your room looks like...But Good luck!

  3. hmm. Well im 15 and i just redid my room and its very neat.  I don't know if you've ever heard of Platos Closet...but that is what inspired me to color coordinate my closet.  only t-shirts and tank tops are hung up and they are in rainbow order.  So whenever I can't find that new tank top for a party, i know it can't be anywhere but in the laundry or hanging in my closet, easy to find.  As for books, I have black shelves (i dont know if black would match yojur room) that i keep my books on. It makes white, bare, walls look somewhat more interesting.  I went through all of my clothes and got rid of unwated/didnt fit clothes and gave them to charity.  Then i had enough space for everything to have a place.  It looks very organized in my eyes. As for shoes, i have two ideas, for one you could get the shoe organizers that hang from you door (usually closet door) or i have a simple shoe rack in the bottom of my closet. It's a little plain but it IS a closet...  sorry i cant help with the makeup organizing. I need a way to organize my makeup too :) hope i helped

  4. Well, Target.com has GREAT ideas for storage! Here's a site for college kids, but it's helping me out, too (I'm going to be a senior in high school this year). I know how important it is to be organized but doing it for less money.

Start off by putting things in piles. Things you want to keep, things you don't, things that can be thrown away, etc.

Clicking on the Catalog (or visit this website: http://catalog.target.com/BTC2008/defaul... can give you some great ideas for storage and other roomy stuff.

    Starting off with clothes…

If you have a closet, take EVERYTHING out! Vacuum it thoroughly and maybe paint it white to give it the appearance of a larger space. Start by deciding what you will or won't keep. Sell the clothes, or better yet, give them to charity. Then, start off by buying organizers. Buy a shoe rack or shoe organizer (http://www.target.com/Simply-Shabby-Chic... , http://www.target.com/Over-the-Door-Shoe... , or http://www.target.com/Over-the-Door-Shoe...

) to organize all those shoes!

For purses and handbags, use something like this:  http://www.target.com/Over-Door-Purse-St...  Personally, I prefer using hooks for the bags and sweaters I use most often.

For sweaters/sweatshirts and jeans, get a hanger for the rack. Here's one! http://www.target.com/Michael-Graves-Des... Just look for stuff similar to these items**

Put pajamas, tank tops, stockings and other items into storage drawers (http://www.target.com/b/ref=sc_iw_r_2_1/...

    ).

Hang other clothes such as dresses, slacks, shirts, etc. on hangers. I organize my clothes by type/style, and I use different color hangers to represent that style. Dresses go on the far side and have a brown hanger, casual tops go on the right and have an olive green hanger, and so on. You can organize the clothes that go on a rack in any way you want! If you have a top shelf, use fabric bins and other plastic totes for more storage!

Put seasonal items in storage/space bags or under the bed boxes. Like, put your winter scarves and jackets into a storage bin in the summer, etc. This gives you more room and a better focus on what you can and can not wear. Saves plenty of room! (Under the bed boxes look like this: http://www.target.com/Iris-Underbed-Boxe... but I use those and some of these, too http://www.target.com/Natural-Soft-Side-... If you don't have the space, give your bed a lift with bed risers such as these http://www.target.com/Plastic-Bed-Risers...  )

For papers, maybe buy a filing cabinet, such as these: http://www.target.com/gp/search/602-1459...

Buy bookcases and shelves for your walls. Vertical space is key, also! You can get small storage boxes, fabric bins/drawers, or photoboxes to hold make up, letters, cards, etc. These help me, too!

Organize CDs with a media rack, or put them in a bin and hide them under your bed or somewhere else.

Put books on bookcases. Target has some cheap 3 shelf bookcases for $19.99, or 5 shelf for $29.99. Very nice price and quick solution!

For computer desks, put pencils, pens, scissors in vertical places or items like this: http://www.target.com/Armada-4-Cup-Craft... (oh, and for the papers things... use something like this! http://www.target.com/4-Drawer-Document-...

Looking at Target or any other store can give you great ideas. Look at this site! http://www.target.com/Storage-Organizati... Amazing ideas!

I hope I helped you a little! I know how important it is to have a clean, happy space.
