  1. leave the money on the table

or carefully fold a dollar note up and place it into the waiter/waitresses front pocket and friendly tap it, and say "get yourself a new suit" then give a cool wink ;)

  2. the best way is to give atleast double the tax...that would usually be about a 15% tip...if the person waiting on you is very good then use you best judgement after doubling  the taxes....

  3. 10% is NEVER the way to go.  Always take everything into consideration when tipping.  More times than not, the guys in the kitchen are responsible for food coming out late or incorrect.  Those folks get paid by the hour, they don't care.  You should know ahead of time that $5 is the place to start, and then go up.  People should start at $10 if they have kids.

    Other things to consider:

    Servers knowledge of the menu

How pleasant they are during your table visit

The way other guests are treating them, sometimes a table can really mess up their night/attitude

How many things you ask for

Servers are hard working people, and have to put up with some rude and downright mean folks.  Leaving a big tip makes a huge impact in a servers shift.  Whether you like to look like a big spender or you just like to lift the spirits of a stranger, you should always tip big.  Most servers only make $2.13 hr so that extra two bucks you shell out makes a big difference.

  4. 10% left on the table or taken to the counter x

  5. cash with bill x

  6. If the service is fair to just OK--- I tip15%

If there is really horrible to no service --I leave a penny.

If the service is really good to fabulous--I have left 25-30% of the tab---and also tucked an extra $20 in the pocket of hand of the person who had the most to do with servicing the table.

  7. Generally about 10% of the bill, left on the table.

  8. HELLO

CASH IS BEST IN THE PLATE UNDER A NAPKIN AFTER THEY HAVE RETURNED YOUR CARD

THIS IS BECAUSE THE TIPS ARE NORMALLY SHARED OUT BETWEEN FRONT OF HOUSE PEOPLE, ie THE PEOPLE YOU SEE

THEY DON'T WANT IT ADDED TO CARD AS THIS WOULD THEN BE INCLUDED IN THEIR WAGES AND TAXED.

THE BACK ROOM PEOPLE DO NOT GET ANY OF THE TIPS.

    HOW DO I KNOW

    GUESS?

I WOULD ALSO CHECK TO SEE IF SERVICE CHARGE HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE BILL AND IF SO HOW MUCH AS THIS IS IN REALITY THE SAME THING

    SO

    I QUITE OFTEN DON'T TIP

THEY WORK OUT THE COST OF A MEAL THEN AT LEAST TREBLE IT TO WORK OUT HOW MUCH TO CHARGE YOU

    BON APPETITE

  9. Very English.  I give 10%.  Although I give nothing if the service has been rubbish.  AND I definitely give absolutely nothing if the waiter or waitress actually stands over me with that horrible payment machine in their hand and asks 'And what tip would you like to give?' (in a loud voice) so I just reply (in a loud voice) 'Nothing'.  I know they rely on tips, and that it's a c**p job, but I will never be EMBARRASSED into giving a certain tip.

  10. I always tip at the end of the meal by leaving money on the table.  I never add it to the card cuz the waiters sometimes don't get all or any of it.

Is it just me or are Brits rubish tippers?

If I spend £10-30 i tip between £3-4. I adjust this accordingly for service and the cost of the meal.

How much do waiters get paid in America. Brits get about £5.50- £7.50 ($11-$15) an hour?
