Question:

Best ways to travel with dogs and cats?

We are moving to Atlanta from Detroit and are bringing our two large dogs and two cats. We are taking two vehicles (one car and one pickup). Does anyone have any good ideas on how to do this and make it less stressful for all of us? Currently we are thinking one dog in each vehicle (in doggy seatbelts) and both cats in a crate in the backseat of the car.

  1. You can get some herbal remedies for car sickness and anxiety in pet shops, or tranquilizers from the vets in very bad cases.

Some names are things like Serene-Um (drops or pills, natural and from pet shops), or Johnsons' Car Sickness Tablets (ditto). Or go into a pet shop and ask about traveling with animals.

I'm not sure how many miles it is- I'm in the UK- but if it is a journey that is over an hour long, I'd advise to stop and allow the dogs out and check the cats are okay and offer them water. Bring a bowl and a bottle of water for the dogs, and you can get bottle and dish combos to offer the cats, or use a 'coop cup' or 'no spill' bowl in the crates for the cats.

Try not to feed them before the journey or during the journey as this may make travel sickness worse. Put favorite toys or blankets in with the dogs/cats, and you could put a blanket over the cat crates if you hear them fussing or think they may be over anxious.

But it gives you an idea what's avaliable and what you're looking for- you could even search the products online but avaliable in America.
