    Aerobic respiration: The process in which glucose is converted into CO2 and H2O in the presence of oxygen, releasing large amounts of ATP. Energy is released from glucose or another organic substrate in the presence of Oxygen. Strictly speaking aerobic means in air, but it is the Oxygen in the air which is necessary for aerobic respiration.

    Anaerobic respiration: This is in the absence of air.
