I would appreciate a list of timing tells.

Also, bet sizing reads.

A link would also work!

  1. As far as timing goes, people might mess with how long they take to call/raise just to mess with you and make you overthink things. I wouldn't read too much into that.

The difference between online poker and live poker is that it's much harder to get a read on a person you're not looking at and their betting patterns are hard to figure out also because online players are so aggressive that they play almost any hand and are not afraid to raise or go all in with nothing, no matter how much money involved. I'd reccommend taking the drive to your local casino's poker room and playing live if you think you've got real game. Online play is for suckers. Real suckers.

  2. I have a good read online as far as timing tells, I think.  It's hard to describe.  I think it has to do with natural rythm more than anything.  A guy who takes a long time and is weak has a bit of a different cadence than a guy who takes a long time and is strong.  Of course, there are other factors in this, such as connection speed and opponents multi-tabling, etc, but usually, it's more about rythm.  This is ALL dependent on the opponent's ability to think out plays in advance, and try to give out false reads, etc, but there is something about the TIMING of a play that is a dead giveaway, regardless of how long the player actually takes to act.

I don't know if I can be more clear.  Although, I'm sure I'm not the only guy who can pick up on this read.  And it isn't always evident in every hand.  But it's definitely a factor in some big hands, whether making a great laydown or an unthinkable call.

  3. I think the classic, and most well documented is the insta check.  If the action gets to a player and he checks instantly, he has probably pressed the automatic check/fold button.  This means there is a good chance that in the next betting round he will fold to any bet, unless he has experienced a dramatic change of fortunes on that street.

  4. Timing tells?

If the player takes the action immediatley, then that means that theyre prolly playing multiple tables and they had qued in that action in, before knowing the action before them.  That gives a bit more emphasise to that action.

An immediate call typically means a draw (in limit play).

An immediate raise typically means A theyre strong or B they want you to think theyre strong.

An immediate check either means A theyre uninterested with the hand or B theyre got a monster.

If a player takes a long time, and then raises, youre probably up against a big hand.

Actually, if a player takes long time to make a decision, then that shows theyre interested in the hand, and theyre probably strong.  (note, if a player takes a long time before the flop they could just be taking a p**s or something)

Players who take a long time, and then fold, theyre trying to tell you "I wanna call you, but I wont." which typically means theyll call you next time...so dont bluff!
