Beta Blocks have made symptoms worse!? :/ x?

I'm on beta blocks for 'suspected migraine'/head shooting pains.

originally i was put on a 40 mg dose a day. (low)

Whilst on this dose, my head pains became really severe.

I went to the g/p and for some reason he'd lowered my dose,

(without my neurologist knowing) to 10 mg a day.

Since then, my head pains have decreased.

I've still had them just as bad, just no AS MUCH.

What does this mean? haha =)

  1. Aside from other factors (like your body getting used to the medication), it's possible that beta blockers might not be the right medication for you or you need a different blocker.  Possibly your 'suspected migraine' is actually a symptom of something else (like blood pressure, electrolyte imbalance issues, a brain tumour, or something)?

Seems like you have concerns that the meds contributed to the problem at the 40 dose and at the lower dose result in the same pain only less frequently(?)  I wonder what you're supposed to do when the blockers don't work.  I would definitely speak with both doctors about your medication regimen and any concerns.  Some people do better with prevention meds and some do better with abortive ones.

I've been given quite a few meds and shots over the years.  Some things worked better than others, some didn't work at all, and some made it unbearably worse.  Personally, I would rather take nothing than take something that makes things worse.  Once, I was Rx'ed (old-school) epilepsy meds.  In the end, that one didn't happen for me but I have met a few people (online) who say it worked for them.  So far, abortives work best for me, but they don't work for some of my other family members.  I guess it really depends.

  2. bassically ur body is getting use to its own beta blockers, because ur body got use to having them ur body is now adjusting to not using them in a nutshell =) thanks .
