  1. Don't believe people that say that they fight with EVERY other fish.

You can actually mix them with most fish, especially bottom feeders. Here's a list of compatible tankmates for your betta.

    Coradoras Catfish

    Small loaches

    african dwarf frogs

    plecos

    cardinal and neon tetras

    zebra danios

    rasboras

    swords

    platies

    mollies

    ghost shrimp

    snails

    white cloud minnows

    oto

Some examples of fish to NOT put in with your Betta in the community tank are: guppies, goldfish, angelfish, guaramis, silver dollars, tiger barbs (cherry barbs or o.k.), some of the larger tetras, and, of course; another betta fish.

  2. hi, i own a betta and i asked myself the same Q, the answer is yes, BUT it all depends on your betta, Goldfish are compatible with betta, they don't need to have bubbly oxygen, but when i tried it they began fighting, i would say that any fish that doesn't have many colors or flashy fins would do. Bettas don't like it when they live with other colorful creatures.

I hope you find a good fish

    good luck

  3. No they will fight with any other fish.

  4. Small fish, bottom feeders, and non aggressive or flashy fish are great with Betta's.

Fancy guppies are a massive no-no- Most Betta's mistake the guppies for other males, and attack.

Fast moving fish such as platies and larger tetras(black skirts, etc.) aren't great mixes, because they eat all the food.

It is an absolute myth that Betta's need to be on their own. Sure, some can be nasty pieces of work, but they can be nice, peaceful fish when with compatible tank mates.

Don't ever mix males with females. They aren't in anyway compatible.

  5. no its for the safety of ur other fish! i would like a clown fish so u could entertain ur child {if u have one} and not no big fish ;]

  6. I have kept many betas in my community aquarium's before here's the trick.  First off a 10 gallon tank is too small, i know the pet store people tell you they like it that way but they can also thrive in a larger tank. I have two 55 gallons that I keep as community tanks and I have a male beta in each one and they don't harass the other fish because they have plenty of room. If you cant buy a bigger tank you could get some company for em. In that ten gallon you could get some apple snails. maybe even three to 5 zebra danios cus they are fast and can get away from the beta with ease. betas are mostly only aggressive towards other male betas or fish that look like him with long flowing fins. betas get a bad wrap and really if in the right enviorment they are peaceful and fun to watch. ( watch out for the danios though because they might fin nip, its hit or miss with that, some do some don't)

  7. just go to the pet store, or wherever you intend to buy the fish, and ask whoever is incharge.

  8. Bettas are only aggressive to their own kind, in fact they make great community tank specimens. There are a lot of fish that will get along fine with bettas, what you should avoid though are fast moving fishes like barbs as they tend to nip at the fins of bettas.

I would suggest live bearers like swordtails or moliies, some corydoras, and maybe some medium sized tetras.

  9. Yes, it is possible to put betas with other fish. Just as long as they're not with their own type. That's when they'll fight until one or both are dead!

I have a male beta with my community fish.( Barbs,Danios,Pleco,Corydoras, and Tetras) Although, i have to worn you, when i put my Beta in with the other community fish, barbs tend to be a little nippy so when he first came in, the barbs did nip at his fins a little bit. But, they stopped after 3 or so minutes after putting him in the tank.

Here is a link. Hope this helps!
