Betfair E. A. Derby Trial Stakes preview
The Betfair E. A. Derby Trial Stakes begins Wednesday at Yarmouth. There will be four divisions of six greyhounds each going a distance of 462m.
Division four goes first and will see race favourite Geralds Gift try to recover from a tumble on Saturday. Gift, a joint favourite in the A1 420M Flat at Peterborough last Saturday, was badly bumped and knocked over in a rough race. Gift will face off against Perfect Review and Lonesome Rab, both listed at 3-1. Rab has experience on the Yarmouth track and will use that knowledge out of the sixth trap. Herberts Dilemma has 4-1 odds but is up against tough competition and cannot make any mistakes. Springwell Hot at 6-1 and Final Navigator at 8-1 are the long shots and have little chance to make a splash.
The third division will see Glenske Bond race from the first trap at 2-1 odds. Bond will run hard and has beaten Rockforest Ace, at 11-4, twice in a row. Ace is a good runner as well however, and will challenge Bond. Eye on the Brave and Riverside Legend are both listed at 4-1. Brave could challenge for top spot in this race, but don’t rely on it. Springwell Ben sits at 7-1 and Filey Assasin at 10-1.
The second division has Lanrigg Lad at 5-2. Lad managed to finish third with 20-1 odds at Yarmouth in the Carling Eat Anglian Challenge Final on 11 August. The odds aren’t as long this time but look for similar success. Millwards Siren sits at 9-2 and could be a good selection if the odds justify it. Reluctant and Eye On The Flash are both currently 3-1. Reluctant has disappointed of late, and Flash tends to not be aggressive from behind the leader. Beaufort Bound is 5-1 and has little hope coming out of the fifth trap while On Ya Boyo is a bit of a wild card at 10-1.
The last race of the Betfair E. A. Derby Trial Stakes will see Fear Zafonic at 6-4 odds. Zafonic should do well. An early crowd could put Zafonic at a disadvantage coming out of the fourth trap. Bucks Yahoo is another one to watch at 7-4. Bucks won the Ladbrokes Gold Cup final on 20 August beating even odds favourite, Blue Artisan, by a nose. Chicago Price and Lainedans Flyer are listed at 5-1. Price may do well out of the first trap and Flyer, who will be coming out of the third trap, won the Peterborough Derby earlier this month. Gerry Rob John is 10-1 and Ocean Star is 12-1. Gerry Rob John could do well if some early crowding or bumping slows down the favourites.
