Betfair Pall Mall 2011- Brittons Empire wins final for Chris Allsopp, Ballymac Ace disappoints
Brittons Empire slaughtered a field of six competitive Greyhounds to take home the Betfair Pall Mall.
The final kicked off on 28th June 2011 in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Oxford. The field of six consisted of Ballymac Ace, Aherlow Shaw, Brittons Empire, Dromana Max, Pams Tomjo and Buzz Doc.
Chris Allsopp’s Brittons Empire blasted off from Trap 2 and took the lead, winning a well deserved victory by ¾ of a length in 26.91 seconds.
7/4 favourite and last year’s winner, Ballymac Ace, was a major disappointment, finishing in fourth place. He was doing fine early in the race although he started slow.
Soon after, he bumped into Dromana Max and never really recovered. While the action was taking place up-front he just faded into the background and finished in fourth place, dampening the joy for trainer, Chris Allsopp.
Despite the collision, Dromana Max, ran a good race and although he never led he did end up as a runner-up by a close margin.
Buzz Doc too ran a good race finishing in show position. Pams Tomjo and Aherlow Shaw closed the field. Both ran pretty mediocre races, colliding quite often.
Although, Allsopp was away, his assistant, Paul Anderson, said:
“I’m delighted both dogs ran well, and that we’ve managed to win it – we’ll now look to get them all ready for Sunderland”.
Brittons Empire will now run in one of the two high-quality competitions at Sunderland.
Looks like Chris Allsopp was in luck at the £8,000 Betfair Pall Mall for the second time over as last year too his entrant, Ballymac Ace, had won. Prior to this Allsopp’s Express Shuttle brought home the Betfair Blue Riband at Hall Green. To celebrate this
spectacular year Allsopp is vacationing in Florida.
In the meanwhile, Head Iton Jason, too brought triumph to Allsopp Kennel by winning the 595m Ladbrokes Stayers Classic in 36.84 seconds. This is Head Iton Jason’s sixth consecutive high-quality victory.
Bred by Hades Rocket and Velvet Satin and owned by Neil Britton and Carl Collins, Brittons Empire too has had a good year, winning twelve of the twenty-four races he has run this year.
Preceding the final were seven other races for the hounds that did not make it to the final.
The first pre-final race, a 450 meter race for puppies was won by Silverview Perky, while favourite for the race, Droopys Boo, failed to please.
Long-shot Tictac Gold won the second race of the day and Head Iton Jason the third one.
After a day of terrific racing, consisting of eight riveting races, some spectacular performances, and, some disappointing ones, the Betfair Pall Mall drew to a close.
