Betfair sponsors 2013 Snooker Shootout event at Tower Circus Arena in Blackpool
Snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has taken some drastic measures to promote the game of snooker across the globe. Due to these initiatives, the game has hit many new regions so far which has brought many
sponsors that have supported the game in their respective countries. Continuing the objectives, one of the major sponsors of World Snooker, Betfair, has decided to sponsor the 2013 Snooker Shootout event.
The 2013 Snooker Shootout event will be launched from January 25 to 27 at the Tower Circus Arena in Blackpool. The arena is one of the best venues specialised for international snooker competitions. Officials of the WPBSA were quite happy to see the game
making its place everywhere in the world. The World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn appreciated the sponsorship of Betfair and hoped for a strong relationship with them in the future.
While speaking to World Snooker, Hearn said, “We are thrilled to be working with Betfair, the world's biggest international online sports betting company, on the most exhilarating event on the snooker calendar. This tournament is all about thrilling and
fast moving snooker action. “
He added, “It's great fun for the players and for the fans who come along, and when the arena is packed out, it generates such a buzz. The Betfair Snooker Shoot-Out has become one of the most widely anticipated events of the season so everyone should get
their seats booked straight away.”
The Snooker Shootout event is based on the short-formatted snooker contests that the WPBSA formulated for entertainment purpose. The tournament is a one-frame knockout where potters are given a shot clock during the match and in that short time they have
to execute their move. The format is quite interesting to watch which is why it grabbed strong attention across the world when it was launched in 2011 for the first time.
Last year, it grew with more viewers because of the amount of thrill and entertainment. Winner of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament, England’s Barry Hawkins was the winner of the 2012 Snooker Shootout competition. World Snooker is hoping
that the event will get more viewership this year.
